The ruling goes against a lower Federal Court ruling that banned the Alabama constitutional ban on same sex marriage. The SCOTUS is expected to rule in favor of same sex marriages later this year. 3/5 SCOTUS divided over ObamaCare Subsidies
FOX News Article

The 62-37 vote was only five votes short of passing. A North Dakota senator said that it the vote didn't turn out positive, that they would attach it to another bill and get it passed. Most members of the Republicans and a fair majority of Democrats are for the bi-partisan backed bill. Obama says that this XL pipeline will contribute to global warming and greenhouse gases.
